"The flowers, the house of cards, the burnt matches; this image is again a meditation on time passing. While the vanitas tradition interests me, it is not because I am morbid or religious: mostly I think these ideas are ways to focus on the way paintings happen.

The time I am interested in is not so much the passage of an individual life, as the time it takes to make a painting. How does time affect and shape the process of painting. This work was made by quoting and assembling elements from other paintings, so there isn’t one time registered here."
