The ART ROOM
Monday to Friday, 9:30am - 5pm & Saturday, 9:30am - 12:30pm (or by appointment)
Phone: (02) 4871 3565
Unit 6/227 Old Hume Highway
The shop can be a little bit hard to find, so please call if you need directions.
We are at the rear of the Hume Court industrial complex, which is down the Old Hume Highway from Mittagong centre, past Big W, Woollies and Officeworks, and on the right hand side of the road if you are travelling towards Welby. We are in the same complex as Neeny's Playhouse and the Repco Service Centre.
Black Parrot Art Room specialises in high quality, custom picture framing, and we stock a broad range of artist quality art materials, including acrylic paints, watercolours, oils, printmaking supplies and paper. We do our best to supply the art materials required for art classes in the Southern Highlands, including BDAS, STURT, community and private classes and workshops.
The Art Room includes a changing gallery of work by local and Sydney based artists, including limited edition prints, sculptures, paintings and works on paper. Any artwork you find on our online gallery is most likely available through the Art Room, even if it isn't on the walls.
The Art Room is also a working art studio, and we plan to offer classes and workshops on drawing and printmaking. If you are interested in classes, on any art-related topic, please let us know and we will do our best to put something on or recommend other local classes.

Anthony Springford is the owner and director of Black Parrot Art Room. Anthony has had a convoluted career to date, including making art, university teaching and museum work, but its many threads have come together in his dream of an inclusive art space that supports artists, collectors, amateurs, professionals, students and anyone else with an interest in the creative life.
Anthony has a PhD in Art History focusing on Rococo still life, aesthetics and social history. He also has a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Bachelor of Art Theory and a Graduate Diploma in Project Management.
Alongside regular exhibitions of paintings and drawings at various Sydney Galleries (including Artsite Gallery, Peter Pinson Gallery and Taylor Galleries) Anthony has published articles in a variety of art journals, magazines and catalogues; lectured art history and design theory at the University of New South Wales (CoFA, now UNSW Art & Deisgn) and for a couple of years at AUT in New Zealand. Anthony as also worked for Sydney Living Museums producing and delivering tours and public programs on social history and design from 2009 to 2015. At other times he has dipped his foot into curating, theatre work and conservation. Anthony is in the shop most days, but he could be out painting or walking Atlas, so if you have something especially precious or unusual to be framed to discuss with him personally, please call him on 0425 363 471.

Aaron Zimmerman has worked for Black Parrot since we took over from Artroomers in 2015. Aaron has been a professional framer for over 10 years, and brings a wealth of experience and skill making frames for artworks, memorabilia, needlework and clothing. He also has a black belt in Karate!
Atlas is a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy. He is meant to be in charge of customer relations, but frankly he is more interested in bush walks and eating.
